The Day of the Locust

Dolly, a miniature poodle, yawns as she is groomed backstage. Dolly is treated like a princess as she rests on her pink pillow and dons ribbons of the same color.

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!
OctoWomby launches website to beg for donations!
I won't encourage her with a direct link, but you can find it in the article. There's even a place for comments, but unfortunately you can't see them.

PsychoOctoMom somehow reminds me of this...

Brilliant novel and rather good film too:
The Day of the Locust is a 1939 novel by American author Nathanael West, set in Hollywood, California during the Great Depression, depicting the alienation and desperation of a disparate group of individuals who exist at the fringes of the movie industry.

Plot summary
The book follows a young man named Tod Hackett who thinks of himself as a painter and artist, but who works in Hollywood as a costume designer and back ground painter. He falls in love with Faye Greener, an aspiring starlet who lives nearby. Between his work in the studio and his introduction to Faye's friends, he is soon interacting with numerous Hollywood hangers-on, including a cowboy who lives in the hills above the studios and works as an extra in cowboy movies, his Mexican friend who keeps fighting cocks, and Homer Simpson, a hapless businessman whom Faye is taking advantage of. The book ends with a riot at a movie premiere.

Further commentary to follow

Pissed Off Geisha

bathing in gasoline

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE!
How can this Bikini Machines girl look so miserable yet have a perfectly clean fireplace? WTF? I have a mountain of ash everywhere that I would photo and post if it weren't for concern that some typical Marinite would sue me for it (wasted so much time on stupid trials in jury duty around here). It is a well managed pile of ash that does not represent a risk to the special enlightened people of Marin.
BTW. don't forget to check out Katrin and Nadine over at Nuclear Tentacles!

Sister Suvi - "Longlegs"
Blogger ate my post update while I was distracted, but Wagga sent me a linky to this groovy site for depressed, Aspergers, IT cases who need a plan. Hopefully, they'll keep it updated...

Yes, I am well aware that the above relates to Japan and the below relates to Bowie/China. I miss my friend from Japan who would drag me to aging Bowie concerts where he didn't do much, but smoke cigarettes and wheeze. I hope she's doing OK these days.

She thought I looked like Bowie which made me consider a sex change except for my lack of height.

We Intend To Create Atom Smashing Havoc

I've been meaning to mention this groovy blog I discovered via The Groovy Age of Horror. Nice boots!
Creating havoc sort of ties into smashing atoms and I've been pretty intrigued with the whole LHC concept (at least there's something to get my mind off of politics), but Edgar seems to believe it is the beginning of the end.
If one has to go, I can't imagine anything cooler than (the very slight possibility of) being sucked into a black hole and possibly another dimension (woohoo!) so I'm not all that concerned.

Wow, they still make this T-shirt. Mine is torn to shreds along the lines of the Nietzsche fish one from a million years ago.

Little Lance Thanks his Supporterz

Latest updates from FOAS:
UPDATE 8/14/08 at 1:45pm: We sent Little Lance to go for surgery today! His MRI results showed that he has severe spinal chord compression. The surgeons will be going in and shaving off a portion of his vertebrae to relieve this pressure. The MRI showed that the pressure is causing him to be fecally incontinent; we hope that with the surgery this will be resolved. They will also be going into stabalize his pelvic fracture with a plate, neuter him and fix his swollen eye. He should be returning to the Shelter tomorrow afternoon.
UPDATE 8/14/08 at 12:00pm: East Bay SPCA has contributed $5000 to the reward fund for a total of $10000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person/person(s) responsible for killing and injuring the two dogs.

I think he looks particularly sweet in this video where he's not stuck in a doggy cube.
