Hi Akira... that story makes me so happy... that rottie is gorgeous and the baby wolf is precious... it's beautiful...

I should have known Tanuki was up to something when he was playing behind the bushes for more time than usual. It wasn’t until Akubi started barking that I realize he'd left a "gift" for me.
Unlike when my cat would catch rats, there was little sign of exterior damage, so I thought it was playing dead at first. Once I got the dogs inside and gave it time to settle down, it appeared to be partially paralyzed from the waist down. Other than putting it in a bucket away from the dogs, I don't know what to do. If he doesn’t miraculously make a recovery should I relieve it from its misery?

When one has the sort of semi-slaughtered rodent a cat typically brings in it's a little easier to send it to a better place.
Also, when I moved it to a safe location, I realized it didn't have the beady eyes of a rat, but instead the big round eyes of the California mouse. Quite a large mouse.

Do you think they'd laugh at me if I brought a paralyzed wild mouse to the Humane Society?

Kitty said...

Oh Akubi...

I'm sorry about this... I used to deal with this all the time when my bruiser kitty was alive... he terrorized the entire local kingdom of animals...

If you can put it in a quiet, dark place and let it pass on to its next state... sorry...

Hi Kitty,
When I brought water and food that he could reach without using his back legs, I also decided to cover the shallow bucket (above the dog's reach) so he'd have some privacy.
Overall, it looks like he still has a lot of life in him other than paralysis. I feel so bad and I think Akubi is upset too. Tanuki didn't realize he wasn't a chew toy.
When I had a serious rat catcher cat at my previous place, everyone appreciated her services - and the things were so unrecognizable by the time she brought them home, it was hard to relate to their situation.

Akubi that is the best that can be done...

I've had several rescued animals recover and crawl off... you never know... it's tough... :)

Hi Kitty,
I went out to check on him and he must have passed just moments before I got there. His little paws were together as if he was praying and he had the food I left him right next to his mouth.
I need to go offline before I can think about fishnet Friday and such.

Where are the Friday fishies?

Is everything OK?

Did the poor mousey funeral happen already?

ClancyOfTheOverflow said...

Thousands upon thousands of us are anxiously waiting for Fishnet Friday & it's not here. It's a micetery.

Kitty said...

Oh Akira... I hope everything is OK...

Kitty said...

Now I'm really worried Akira...

Are you ok? Should I send a rescue team to help you?

Miss you and hope you are ok...

sorry about the mouse, he's far happier now. You gave it a decent last few hours of life.

Shreve has a balanced, poignant account of a wolf attack in her neighborhood. Warning: graphic images.

It hurts but it's important to see the pictures of the wolf killing... she did write fairly of the event...

Cruel nature...

Akubi should feel free to retire if she ever gets tired of maintaining this blog. There's already a lifetime of images to contemplate here. (Well, a FEW SOLID MONTHS of contemplation at any rate.)

I was just examining my google search history and this site was number-one most visited by URL (though by domain, sites like Wikipedia ranked higher). That's because I use many public terminals and can't type out the whole name, so I just google 'akubi blog' and get here that way.

I'd be sad if Akubi/Akira ended this blog...

It's a piece of art...

Hi Everyone,

Nothing to worry about! (Thanks for your concern thought.)

I was offline at a wedding this weedend and then spent some time recuperating at the beach.

Well, I have an awful lot to catch up on, but I was intrigued with the wolf attack article. I didn't realize how coyote and fox hunting strategies differed so much from those used by wolves, dogs and humans.
More later.

Hi Kitty,
You're embarrassing me from all of the reblogging on Tumblr! Thanks for keeping FuckYeahDogs in motion though.

BTW, a friend confirmed my original suspicion that the really big mouse was a rat due to the tail, but agreed that he had rather proportionally large eyes for a rat.

The thing I hate about weddings and funerals, is there's always someone I haven't seen in ages who remembers me in one of my weird teenage phases.

'Kubes: I had a weedend - killed thousands of them. I think you had a weekend...

Akubi said...

Hi Wagga,
I hope you pulled your weeds and didn't use a chemical solution...

One other thought on the wedding: it was rather small, so each side of the family/friend sphere was on a separate long table. Perhaps because the groom was Italian, there were many kids and such on his side.
On the bride's side of the family (mine) we're all sharing digital photos of our dogs and cats and attempting to discuss their virtues over the babies screaming on the other side.

Kitty said...

Super AKUBI!

Goodie... you're ok!

Glad you had a good time at the wedding... Italiano... YEAH!

OK... I'll tone down now.

Hi Kitty!
Well, the food was good, we talked about dogs and such, but there are other aspects of the whole thing I'd like to slice away and separate from my memory.

Hi Wagga!
It seems you also hang out with Dostoevsky enthusiasts!

East of Eden is on!
Gotta go and get ready for work while semi-watching it.

Kitty said...

Hi Akubi... there are definately parts of my life that I'd like to "slice" away... but mainly annoyances... never did anything truly radical... :)

Glad the food was good...
