Cliff House, San Francisco – September 7th 1907
The Cliff House and Sutro Baths survived the 1906 earthquake with little damage but burned to the ground on the evening of September 7, 1907. Rebuilding of the restaurant was completed within two years and, with additions and modern restorations, is the one seen today.

that was ,,,1907/Flowy,,,
Hi Flowy!
I love the top two images and find it amazing that the place survived 1906 when one notes the problematic architecture.
Who would be the best Impressionist painter to cover this scene...?
Hi Akira...
I love the top two... brilliant...
I vote Manet
@Flowy,
Wow, were we separate at birth?
Of course that's what I was thinking too.
There was a time in my life when I wrote a "Tearing her Corpse to Pieces" thesis on Manet, Flaubert, prostitution, consumption, simulation, commodification, etc.
Wow Akira...
Love to read that paper...
Olympia and Bar in den Folies-Bergère are my favorites.
I love Paris; it's the San Francisco of Europe!
With all of that crazy deconstruction crap, I can barely understand what I was saying any longer, but it went over well at the time.
Other amusing things: The annual Social Security Statement.
What a joke!!!
There's no way in hell I'll ever see what they promise.
Hi akira....
Social security? errr... hard to believe...
I think I'll find a cave and plant the three sisters...
Yes... Manet... 1860's...imagine...
So interesting! I love those old pics too. Check out the prim and proper ladies @ top. (tee hee)
That's me in the plaid skirt!
Due to the swine flu, we haven't gone to the dog park all weekend and instead take other routes people avoid.
Ick... revenge of the swine...
Hi Kitty,
I've been thinking the same thing.
Maybe all of the cute pigs will be our new overlords.
Pppppigs might be ok... \\suresure//
Hi Akubi!
That's me in the plaid skirt!I'm the Clif House burning and falling into the water!
Poor Akira...
I'm the Clif House burning and falling into the water!Like a phoenix!
Change the World
2 confirmed cases of swine flu where I live!
Stay in the house Akubi...
Just go to work when you go out...
You will be safe...
Early meme alert: "pigs might flu". Only 8 hits for now, but I bet it goes way up.
@Flowy,
I've been as much as a shut-in as possible the past few days (what do you think of my cheap new house above?) and even avoided the dog park so as to further avoid any human contact with people. I think everything should be fine, but I always rub my eyes at this time of year and have a scarred ear from multiple infections since I was a little kid that quickly lead to a brain meltdown fever.
Also, the f-ing command control center is right across the highway from me.
Mitchell,
Flying piggy in the next post!
Akira... that is a very sweet "Sweet Deal" house...
I know how to renovate... roof first! (Actually any foundation improvements first...)
Sometimes you find ghosts in old houses...
