Danger Dogs

Given the state of the economy I've been very frugal lately, but a part of me sure is tempted to splurge and order one of these Danger Dog signs from Nepal. I wonder how much the artists are paid though...

That seems like a good gift for a Very Big Dog.

I was moving my planters around to the back this morning and a little white dog was standing by the open gate in the back yard and was just looking at me. I said whoa, where'd you come from little feller? I turned around and he was gone. A few minutes later I hear him ferociously barking through the fence at the (much bigger) neighbor dog. That continued for a few minutes then he started down the other side of the street with a determined gait. I guess he was making the rounds with his newfound freedom. He was a ferocious beast. Ha!

Speaking of "ferocious" small dogs that think they are Very Big Dogs, Tanuki is scheduled for a consultation with a canine behavioralist due to his biting issues. Currently I'm in document ignore mode over the 4 page questionnaire I have to complete beforehand. I just know the behaviorialist will roll their eyes and think "no wonder the dog is nuts".

You have no idea how humorous that sentence is to me. ;P

Poor koi.

@Edgar,
I guess I would find it humorous if it weren't $90 per hour. I just hope I don't get roped into regular sessions.

@Ogg,
Poor koi. Nice shot though.

Sorry about the $ akubi. Don't think me a heel for saying that, I never had a dog that was a biter. If they did bite someone I probably would've kicked it upside the head. Therapy session ended. Ha! I guess a little dog couldn't take the boot treatment too well.

NP Edgar - it *did* sound rather absurd out of context. Given the cost of owning dogs around here, I can't figure out how people manage to afford kids. Perhaps I just haven't bought into the negative equity and savings Kool-Aid so many others are comfortable with.
It is interesting that American consumers are now beginning to do what I did a couple of years ago. Around here I still haven't seen much of a reduction in car addiction though.

I'm rather behind on my feeds, so just noticed that CR covered the same topic and some of the comments are funny - and in this case relevant:

I believe that the demographic who shops at Petsmart would forego their own meals before they stop shopping there. Besides they have no kids to waste their money on.

Hi akubi, I am so excited. I got word today that I have permission to share-crop a nice large garden area that is mostly ready to go with a little work. I went back and bought a bunch more of those 20 cents per package carrots, onions, spinach seeds for this fall, and I have big plans for the next five weekend's plantings as well. Woohoo! A win-win. :D

P.S. Thanks for the links! I hope people wake up and save money and pay off debts. The only way to beat the banks is to starve the corporate beast.

Wow how did you do that?
Not having enough space for a victory garden of any kind, I would love that.I think there's something about planting one's own vegetables that's good for the soul.

Some smooth talking over @ the inlaws. I put in one row by begging for space and it turns out that I can now plant half the garden as it will be untended this year otherwise. Happy Days. I have a lot of back breaking work ahead, and the FIL is going to get some compost that we can haul in back there, and I have to turn his personal compost pile too. I just love that kind of work. He said he grew a two foot long by 4" diameter carrot back there a few years ago. If I do half that well this fall I'll be dancing a jig. :D

Let Tanuki read this article about a rent-a-dog service, maybe he'll be better behaved. ;) [link]

I've never heard of a "two foot long by 4" diameter carrot" before. It sounds like one of those fishing stories. Nonetheless, it does seem like a super sweet deal for you.
I don't think anyone would want to rent Tanuki.
Just came across this: Hillary and her old enemies cuddle up for a kill

Yeah, it is, the carrot gets bigger every time the story gets told. I though about that last night. would would believe 2 1/2" x 18" long? I didn't see it, so I have no way to verify the story. From the way he talked the top was as big around as a turnip.
