(04-07) 12:22 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Three demonstrators scaled the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge today and unfurled a banner in a protest intended to draw attention to Chinese human rights violations in Tibet.
I think I'll participate in Candle Lights for Human Rights tomorrow night.
Join Richard Gere, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Tibetan leaders and other special guests for a historic rally and candle light vigil in support of the Tibetan people and their struggle for basic human rights. As China prepares to host the Olympics in August, the government is conducting the worst crackdown in Tibet since the 1960s Cultural Revolution.
Come show your support for the Tibetan and Chinese people on the eve of the Beijing Olympic torch passing through San Francisco - the only stop in North America.

Murst!
OT, but I thought this was an interesting idea: Sonoma eyes wastewater as an energy source
Hmmm, this could be an interesting book...
THE traditional face of survivalism is that of a shaggy loner in camouflage, holed up in a cabin in the wilderness and surrounded by cases of canned goods and ammunition.
It is not that of Barton M. Biggs, the former chief global strategist at Morgan Stanley. Yet in Mr. Biggs's new book, "Wealth, War and Wisdom," he says people should "assume the possibility of a breakdown of the civilized infrastructure."
Calling it survivalism is definitely taking it too far. Stocking your home with food, water, and gas makes perfect sense to me; it's the kind of thing you do to prepare for an earthquake. Or a power outage in the dead of winter with a snowstorm raging outside. Or, say, a rebel coup d'etat that lays siege to your apartment building. But you probably don't have to worry about that last one too much, unless you're in a third world country that has regular political upheavals. Point being, even if it's not the kind of thing most people think about, it should be. And I wouldn't worry too much about some "breakdown of the civilized infrastructure." Humans are pretty resilient creatures. Barring an alien invasion combined with biological or chemical warfare... we should be fine.
@NotAnOptimist,
Google seems to have eaten my earlier response regarding:

You sound awfully optimistic these days!
hillaree kitteh haz no room for HOPE
I hope China gets P.O.ed and makes trouble for the world banking cabal. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Hmmm, and how many degrees does that ethically reach?
3 Degrees of Hillary Clinton
That's one fat cat.
This weekend, as the flame arrived in London, The Financial Times reported that Beijing is looking to hire an international public relations firm to help it repair its image before the games. Now there’s an Olympian challenge that will really be worth watching.
Having lost Billary (supposedly) and the Colombian govt, this sounds like just the job for Mark Penn! Win-win!
I hear that the torch is being passed through your neck of the woods. Protests?

You have to do some serious moral gymnastics to come up with that. I think it was the priciple that allowed us to alternately arm both Iraq and Iran over the years. We have met the enemy, and s/he is us.

Other than the Golden Gate bridge protesters yesterday this is all I'm aware of.
The torch is being kept in a super secret location until tomorrow.

Must be 'cause I'm quitting my job.

Sounds like a good idea!
If you're talented - as you clearly seem to be - jobs are easy to come by - whatever the state of the economy.
More important than anything is being at peace - as much as possible these days.
I'm watching this program about dolphins on Nova that is rather uplifting.
