a judgment call on a particularly scary-looking spill

Racing Association Covers Up Horses' Deaths:

"It was a judgment call on a particularly scary-looking spill," said John Lee, spokesman for the New York Racing Association.

The NYRA is afraid of the video being used by groups such as PETA for their gain or for television stations that never show horse racing except for spills.

But in this day and age, the video is already out there. You can watch the spill at youtube.com

Sorry for the filly ...I'm with the Daily news...

"Instead of trying to hide this, the NYRA should have come out with a press release expressing its regret for the death of the filly but that the five jockeys and four other horses all escaped serious injury.

Instead, the NYRA chose to ignore it.

Other racing jurisdictions practice this, but NYRA never did until Wednesday.

It is wrong for the sport to try to cover this up as it unfortunately will always be part of the game."

Really sad on the wolfs... died together...

Rather than racing horses or dogs, I would like to instead suggest the vast supply of human detritus such as this guy.

"There was no way to save her. She couldn't stand," trainer Larry Jones said. "She ran an incredible race. She ran the race of her life."

Oh.. for the creatures who run the race of their lives... with their hearts calling out the way...

RIP 8 Belles...

8 Belles reminded me so much of Barbaro the previous year. Sad.
Why do humans like whipping other animals until they die?
I would rather be a dolphin.
Everything that happens in Alaska seems to stay there, so who knows what the F they drug the dogs with.
K, my cat is going nuts and I need to take a shower and get to sleep early to keep migraines at bay.
Thank God for TGIFF!

More fun at Nuclear Tentacles though!
