Road Kill Depresses Me

On the way to the dog park I encountered a young skunk in the road. With such glossy fur, at first I thought he might be a cat and possibly still alive (I lost my favorite cat that way), but he was neither a cat or alive. He must have just been killed before we arrived though. I wanted to at least pull him off the road, but I had my dogs and he was pretty stinky.
On the way back from the dog park, all that was left was flattened and unrecognizable blood, guts and fur.

In more upbeat news, here's the belated h/t Wagga fishnet find I didn't get around to posting yesterday:
Rather tangentially Flowy reminded me of my fascination with Catherine Deneuve - she never looked as silly as most during the tasteless years.

I hate to say but I'm fascinated with road kill... and once I used some sticks and moved a squirrel off the road... he seemed stunned... when I came back later he was gone... risen from the dead... LazarusSquirrel...

LazarusSquirrel...
I generally associate that Lazarus behavior with snakes. They can look so amazingly dead on the road and slither away.
Need to rant about this before finding some boring crap to eat for dinner around here:
After walking for miles and feeling mildly depressed today I was fairly certain that a large to-go bowl of vegetarian hot and sour soup from the place down the hill would solve everything. Despite my repeated calls, nobody answered the f-ing phone so I finally went down there with my dogs and it was closed on a Saturday night of all things. Forgot about Chinese New Year.
Anyway, I sure wish I had a nice bowl of hot and sour soup with plenty of tofu and mushrooms.

Down here, kangaroos and wallabies (their smaller hoppy cousins) are a major roadkill problem. They do like deer, leaping in front of cars at night. Lots of vehicles have "roo bars" on the front, those shiny steel tubes, to lessen the impact. I sneer at people in SUVs in the city who have these mounted in order to look like they're all rugged and macho. People who live in the bush have a definite need, though.

Roo-related website for Flowy's roadkill fascination, but not for the fainthearted.

I haven't even seen Edgar's comments on Mish's blog, where he had the handle of "Maggot H8R". He was kind of like the court jester over there. Too bad he went underground. I enjoy funny/crazy rants. He's married, right? Maybe his wife made him stop spending so much time on the computer. Mine is always telling me to payt more attention to her, and she's right. Good thing I'm so underworked on my job and we have a fast Internet connection!

Thanks Bukko...

Poor roo roadkill... such agony and sadness... rotting away...

In the rutting season deer are killed more... crazed... running everywhere... mindless... braindead...

@Bukko,
Around here most deer get killed on the very curvy, poorly lit foggy roads where they jump out of the trees and get disoriented – not so many on the main highways. Looking at the terrain in your Roadkill Roos images, there seems little excuse for their deaths – other than really slow response time or driving while loaded.

He was kind of like the court jester over there.
Exactly. That’s what I liked about him.
Edgar, we know you're here somewhere...Where are you?

Hi Flowy,
Well, most of the ones you find on the road probably had a quick death. The saddest ones are those that die slowly near the side of the road. I haven'te had a chance to catch up on your latest lovely posts, but will do so once I get through my email and such.

In other news, my boys (AKA, my Pomeranians) thoroughly embarrassed me at the pet store this afternoon – yet they were so well-behaved at the dog park yesterday. PETA would hate me for supporting such an establishment, but I always love looking at the puppies and kittens when I'm there. It’s also cute to watch the little kids who adore them too. These cute little girls adored my boys and kept telling their mom that they wanted a Pomeranian too. “They’re so fluffy!” I mentioned that the fluffy factor is rather high maintenance and mom listened, but the girls didn’t until my dogs went nuts when it was feeding time for the puppies. They weren’t particularly hungry in the first place, but always worry other dogs are getting better food – so I pulled them away and it didn’t look like those girls would get their white Pom afterall.
We picked up our food and then while I was paying my boys started going nuts again. At that point, I couldn’t figure out what got into them. Turns out it was a large pit bull that the owner was making a point of keeping several feet away. They’re perfectly fine with pit bulls at the dog park, but I think the leash factor stresses dogs out.

Isn't my life exciting ;)?

Hi Akubi...

It's a dogs life eh?...

When I'm out and about I realized today that I always look at the dogs coming towards me instead of the owners... I'd rather make canine eye contact than human eye contact... more real intelligence in the dogs eyes maybe?

The pets run everything... so forgot about being in charge... just smile and act like the leash accessory that you are...

I'm sure the leash factor is real... they know they're confined so they thrash about.... I would too with a pit bull nearby...

Was Edgar a badboy at Mish's place? Edgar is VERY smart and has a sharp tongue... an Edgar tongue-lashing (or tease) could be rough I'm sure...

I'm eating crystallized ginger... gingery...sugary...crystally...

I love ginger too, but generally prefer it in my sushi, tea or kombucha.
Unless it's in strong chocolate, I don't react well to sugar - it makes me hypoglycemic.

Hum... kombucha? I've never had it...

Konichiwa sushi!

Careful with sugarsugarsugar.

Not that I was associated with Edgar/Buzz/Maggot for anywhere near the time you all were, but on Mish's blog he struck me as an impish provocateur. He posted comments that were contrarian to the libertarians there.

Most of the readers of that blog, which is getting quite popular, are followers of this Mish guy. He's a smart economic analyst in many ways. But he's always spouting about "deflation" and how unions should be busted and it's a good thing that workers' wages will go lower, and how government is evil. Edgar would make wild-arse comments about bank maggots, and how there was going to be hyperinflation, and he'd write things suggestive of insane laughter, like the word "Breeheehee!" He didn't curse or insult people, just come across as a bit crazy. That drove some of these uber-serious, humourless types around the bend, but most people knew he was funning.

I'm sure he'll be back. People ebb and flow on teh Internets tubez. It's a flaky medium fo flaky people, including me.

@Flowy,
Right next to a fine oolong tea, kombucha is the best thing ever - however, I wouldn't recommend brewing your own unless you want your entire kitchen to look like The Blob (and that was a successful brewing enterprise). I carefully followed all instructions and ended up with such super happy healthy kombucha "mushrooms" they expanded everywhere to the point that I couldn’t deal with it after it got too hot in the summer.
If you have the time and funds, bottling like champagne as GT does is best.

Bukko,
Yeah, Mish is in my feeds in the Finance category of one of my systems. I don’t read them anymore. Not only are they too depressing, but it was far more interesting when the shit was coming down and people were so f-ing clueless and taking out HELOC’s and such. Now the MSM and such knows we’re screwed so it's rather tedious. I keep the Akubi profile and this blog alive, because Casey Serom was such a perfect harbinger and should remain documented (i.e., Caseypedia) for posterity.

Other than technical blogs I rarely remain so pissed off and rant to the point that I change my name – which of course varies.
I do miss Tanta at CR though (won’t tell you what name I ever used there).
