It's now OK to shoot gray wolves in the Northern Rockies

Waterwolves by ~skipaway

Apparently a grand total of only 1,500 grey wolves in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming means it is now OK to hunt them.
Grey wolves in the Northern Rockies of the United States have been removed from the endangered species list, the US Department of the Interior has said.
The move follows efforts over the last 13 years to protect the animals and allow their population to grow.
There are now an estimated 1,500 grey wolves in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
They became a protected species in the US after they were nearly hunted to extinction. The removal of protection means they can be hunted again.
Environmental groups have said they will sue the federal government to keep the animal listed.

Bush Administration Announces Plan to Strip Wolves of Endangered Species Protection

Deputy Secretary of the Interior Lynn Scarlett called the wolf recovery program a "remarkable conservation success story," but wolf advocates disagree. They are upset that wolves will once again be hunted, and they say the population levels allowed by the government are not large enough to maintain a viable population.

Idaho officials want to use aerial gunning as seen in this video to kill wolves in their state.

Save America's wolves from the Bush/Cheney Administration.

Tell Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne that this rule change is unacceptable.

Murst!

1500 seems inadequate.

When he leaves office, I think Dick Cheney plans to crawl out of his undisclosed secret location and go wolf hunting.
I'm sure we could blame ExxonMobil somehow as well in 6 degrees ;).

Under existing state management plans -- plans approved by the Bush Administration -- all but 300 hundred wolves could be killed. That's 80% of the wild wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies!

I think Cheney should be allowed to hunt as many wolves as he wants. With his bare hands.

The wolves held a pack meeting. It was decided that the Alpha Wolf would petition the king for a meeting in the Oval Office with cheney and bush. cheney to be armed with a shotgun, and no SS present. After the inevitable, AW will rip cheney's throat out. 2 minutes, tops.

Darth Cheney will chop off their heads and stick them on the fence posts outside his spread. Later they will drink their blood in a bizarre secret society ritual.

I would certainly hope that Cheney's firearms license has been revoked. Does anyone know the current status?
BTW, I've updated the post with another video specific to the Northern Rockies wolves that's worth watching.
Anyway, I'm watching the Obama/Billary debate and I can't stand the smirks on Billary's face.

That's a very depressing video. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a wolf. (Did anyone else watch that one cartoon where these "superheroes" could turn into the animal on their emblem? I was a huge fan. And I chose the gray wolf, because wolves are way cool and gray is a cool color.)

Aerial gunning sounds like fun. I'd like to go aerial gunning for aerial gunners.

Actually, you can even get paid for that.

@Ogg,
No, I wouldn't want that in my breading pond.

@NotAnOptimist,
Aerial gunning for aerial gunners does sound like fun, but not in the manner Ogg suggests.

Even in Wyoming, which has the harshest measures in place for controlling wolves, a majority of residents who spoke up during a public comment period on the state’s plan opposed it, according to an analysis by the Wyoming Department of Game and Fish.
