Koi looks quite thrilled. Or bored. I can't tell which.

Glad you're enjoying Portland. I've been considering just taking off and heading down there one weekend, drive's not too bad. I hear there's a ginormous bookstore, Powell's... ?

@Buzz Saw,
I've named the "magnificent koi" Nietzsche.

@Ogg,
Yes, he's an awfully nice and official fish.

Regarding koi: Today I saw some somewhat larger koi at the Knowing the Fish Pavilion : The name of the Knowing the Fish Pavilion comes from an ancient Taoist legend. Two friends Zhuang Zi and Hui Zi were walking along the edge of a stream. Zhuang Zi looks at the fish and said “Look at those happy fish!”. Hui Zhi said, “How can you know the pleasures of a fish? You are not a fish.” Zhuang Zi responded, “How do you know I do not know the pleasures of a fish? You are not me.” Unlike the Japanese tea garden in SF, they actually have some really good tea selections in the tea house and it isn't overrun with tourists.

@Notanoptimist,
Yes, I went to Powell's too and purchased a couple of books. Yes, it is "ginormous" and takes up an entire block - and that doesn't include a separate technical bookstore. I liked that fact that they had a number of discounted and used books.

So far I haven't seen a dirty jeep and boots combo that might possibly be Stephanie J., but itsallgood.
