My dog has gone crazy!

While we were out for a walk today Tanuki attacked the lower leg of a guy who just happened to be passing by. He has never done anything like this before. By the time I realized what was going on I pulled him back. Luckily he didn't break through any skin, but he tore a big hole in the guy's jeans. I felt really bad and offered to reimburse him, but he kept saying "No it's OK". If I had sufficient cash on hand I would have just handed it to him, but I didn't. Perhaps being pent up inside during the storm has caused this, but I'm very concerned about this aggressive behavior and could use the Dog Whisperer’s help right now.

In other news, I guess erotic radio host Monika Thomas could be considered loosely freegan.
"There are so many empty houses in this city, all the time, which is amazing given all the people who can't afford to live here," Thomas said. "I like to think this is a way of recycling living space, of not having housing go to waste."

UPDATE! Zillow Book has been flagged as "objectionable". WTF is objectionable about it?

Murst!

Sorry, I don't have any advice not being a dawg person, but good luck.

What about Monika? Would you say she's loosely freegan?

@doggie:

Has he had his shots? Do his teeth hurt? Have you checked him over for sore spots?

@vacant housing:

They will bulldoze those empty houses before they sell them cheap. There goes the recycling theory. What a waste.

@Edgar,
Yes, Tanuki is completely up to date on his shots and such. Right now he's chewing his kibble and his teeth don't seem to hurt. They are very sharp though. Sometimes little dogs have the sharpest teeth.
Regarding vacant housing, there are a lot of houses in certain parts of the Bay Area that are second, third, fourth, whatever homes of very wealthy people whose primary residence isn't even in the U.S.

I don't know if you saw my update to this post but Zillow Book has been flagged as objectionable. I have never seen that in an artistic nude blog free of lurid, tacky porn ads before. WTF?

Hi akubi, you sed:

It is probably some uptight undersexed religious zealot or something. From Blogger Content Policy:

Pornography and Obscenity: Image and video content that contains nudity, sexually graphic material, or material that is otherwise deemed explicit by Google should be made private. Otherwise, we may put such content behind an interstitial.

In the spectrum of porn and obscenity, Zillow Book isn’t even PG-13. I love the way it’s perfectly acceptable for the innocent, under-18 crowd to see violence galore yet an artistic nude is “objectionable”. I can’t think of a single image in ZB that would “harm the young mind of a innocent” any more than prime time television - in fact I think it's a lot less harmful. Our society is so fucking stupid and mixed up. Also, the Blogger erotica blogs in other countries that I follow don't seem to encounter the same problems as the U.S. of f-ing head up their A-holes. Have you noticed that?

I hear you akubi, you're preaching to the choir.

@Edgar,
Yeah, I'm also pissed off at Safeway.com at the moment. I thought they had their act together and wouldn't fall into Webvan-hood. Not so this evening! Back up a bit - to save on delivery charges, I order a lot at one time and don't have time to go through it all before the driver has to go. Also, both Akubi and Tanuki have been acting out and hostile today so I had to shut them in the other room when the groceries arrived.
Anyway, I didn't receive a significant portion of what I wanted and although I stated NO SUBSTITIONS received a bunch of crap I wouldn't eat unless it was an emergency situation and required it for survival purposes.
While I only got 1 f-ing package of tofu, I received a half dozen frozen Philly steak and cheese sandwiches as well as BBQ chicken(?!). I hate steak and chicken! So I called the Safeway.com customer service, stayed on hold for a millennium and they said they'd credit my account since I clearly didn't order it.
Great, fine, but WTF am I going to do with all of these Philly steak sandwiches and BBQ chicken I don't even want in my freezer? I requested that they pick the shit up to avoid waste, but I’m not sure if that will happen (still waiting to hear from the driver) so I guess I’ll bring it to work tomorrow. Coworkers will eat anything if it’s free.

@ Akubi:

What a pain in the ass. Do you have enough tofu and such to get you through to the next delivery? As for the less loosely vegan stuff, bringing it to work is a good idea. Failing that, I'm lead to believe that there are people who will eat food you leave in the dumpster.

Sorry to hear that. Try to return first. If / when it becomes clear that they aren't going to want them back you can give them away.

The guy hasn't yet returned to pick up the crap or deliver anything that was missing. I packed all of the order details in my backpack for tomorrow so as to deal with Safeway.com at lunchtime - when they'll hopefully pick up the phone.
I'll also bring those meat products to the office.

One thing they didn't quite hit on in that article is the effect of the difference in labor costs between where stuff is produced and where stuff is consumed. That's the biggest reason why things are throw away instead of repaired: because labor is so much cheaper where they're made, it costs more to repair than to replace.

For an extreme example, look at low-end computers. We're starting to see people getting new computers when they have a serious Windows problem. There's nothing wrong with the hardware, but in many cases it doesn't cost any more to get a new bottom of the line computer than to have somebody come out and reinstall Windows.

Cell phones are a particularly nasty case because they're so often locked to a particular cell carrier.
