Happy Philosophy Day!

Now that we're back where we were in f-ing 1997, one can't help but feel philosophical over the lost decade. Here are some tentacles, pulp fiction art and Schoolhouse Rock to cheer you up.

Clearly itsnotallgood, economically speaking. I still don't know how worried I ought to be though.

@Ogg,
My parents don't seem all that concerned which puzzles me.
Since it is Philosophy Day, I'll admit a leaning towards glass half empty. It is all relative.

Your parents are retired, aren't they? That probably changes things a bit.

As I said, I'm not sure what to think. As for the tech industry, it seems like business as usual in SF but I hear on the internets that it's a bloodbath in NYC.

I'm glad I didn't go after some of those cushy bank jobs a while back.

Wow, my name actually has caps in the right places. And so do yours! That's positively orgasmic. Je pense donc je suis?

More background on my situation: There are two kinds of outsourcing firms. There's the cheap, usually Indian or eastern European kind that claims to be able to do the work for less than the cost of hiring your own team. Then there's the kind that has more digits in its hourly rate than the first kind, but claims to be worth it in terms of quality and productivity.

Since I'm in the Bay Area, you can guess which kind I work for. I'm somewhat optimistic, but I'm not sure how a firm like that is going to fare in a downturn. I'm not too worried right now, but at the same time I'm doing what I can to make sure that it's not my neck on the block if the axe falls. Right now that means putting in extra time here and there, and being a bit more of a self-promoter than I'm comfortable with.

@Ogg,
Yes, my parents are retired, but that also involves 401K $.
Who knows - maybe all of those former bankers will decide to enter the tech market. It sounds like you're doing the right thing.
That's an adorable little doggy!

@NotAnOptimist,
Wow, my name actually has caps in the right places.
Huh?

According to typalizer, you are ISTP - The Mechanics!

@Akubi:
Normally, my name shows up here on the comments page as "notanoptimist". Or maybe I was just hallucinating.

@Wagga,
Yeah, Edgar is also an ISTP. This doesn't at all fit: "They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters."
In real life I'm an INFJ which is nearly the opposite.

@NotAnOptimist,
In my comments feed it looks like you always had caps. Everyone hallucinates on occasion.

my decade isn't lost. of course i didn't buy very many stocks from '97-'07 so that may explain it. I did lose my early twenties tho...

The nicknames have been lower case on the comments page for a long time. Guess they finally fixed it.

Thanks, Ogg! It's nice to know that I haven't lost my mind... well, any more than I've already lost it, that is. ;)
