Zoo Pond Algae Turns Polar Bear Green!

Not only do McCain's screens and Casey's Modesto Pool turn algae green, but polar bears too!

TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- Green-colored polar bears are drawing questions from puzzled visitors at a Japanese zoo.

The polar bears at at a zoo in central Japan turned green as a result of algae in their pool.

Three normally white polar bears at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in central Japan changed their color in July after swimming in a pond with an overgrowth of algae...

Does the zoo pond include koi and stuff?
Speaking of koi, Lou found an overpriced house with a sweet koi pond.
I may have already posted this somewhere...
Camille Rose Garcia - the veritable queen of gin drinking cephalopoda, emo swans, suicidal fawns & eerie, axe-wielding heroines - will exhibit new works at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery in a solo show entitled Ambien Somnambulants from tomorrow onwards.

Murst!

The sun sure has been hard on those polar bears lately.

Speaking of the sun, it is still too f-ing hot here. While the outdoor temperature has dropped 10 degrees, my indoor temperature is still uncomfortable (80) which has left me and the boys rather grumpy despite their day at the dog fair. With their thick coats and the bright sun, they weren't even interested in all of the free dog treats - from as far as the Himalayas, too. I noticed one shaved Pom which might be the best thing to do during heat waves. Like my dogs, I am not made for hot weather.

I know what you mean about the place not cooling down. I lived in a place with an exterior finish that was like cement sprayed with pebbles. It would take days to fully cool down after a hot spell. Summers there were miserable.

I see not only algae but wheat grass juice on that poor bear!

they don't seem to mind being green.

kermit: it's not easy being green...

I love Kermit, but if McCain is elected pres I PLAN TO BLOW MY BRAINS OUT. However, I'd like to go down with a really good gun. Suggestions?

Red Ryder carbon action BB gun?

People survived under Stalin, Hitler, etc.. Hopefully we will survive the felonious forces who have taken over the imperial USA gubmint too.

I agree with edgar. Just be careful not to shoot your eye out if you go that route.

Seriously, even if McCain wins, we will get through that too.

Yeah, sometimes I just need to turn off the TV and remain in Internet Ignore Mode to avoid horrible nightmares involving Palin appointing Supreme Court Justices.

In other news, I'm reading a rather intriguing book, _America America_ and liked this dialogue:

"How do you come to such strong beliefs, Trieste? At your age"
"My father," she answered, without a moment's pause. "Where I live, if you don't have strong beliefs, you're eaten for breakfast."
"And you're not going to be eaten for breakfast."
"No, sir," she said. "I'm not."

I've had a really weird day.
Had to deal with a bunch of bureaucratic BS to replace my lost mailbox key.
When the locksmith arrived, Tanuki went crazy as usual, so I decided to keep him and Akubi on a close leash and complete the transaction by the mailboxes where he wouldn't feel territorial.
On very rare occasions I appreciate the fact that Tanuki is so f-ing nuts. Between my dogs, wallet, new mail keys and huge pile of mail I had my hands full and some freaky Mexican delivery guy arrived out of nowhere. I couldn't understand WTF he was saying so responded with "No Hablo Espanol" but he didn't get it and kept repeating "bonita, bonita" and followed me down the f-ing stairs to my door. I wondered if Bonita was some kind of salsa (had to Google it later) - and I'm in short supply on that front.
Anyway, as though Tanuki had suddenly remembered his wolf heritage, he went **really** fucking nuts and thankfully scared the guy away. Despite his diminutive size, he was pulling as hard on the leash as the 100+ pound Malamute and German Shepherds I grew up with causing me to drop some of my mail to reign him in - concerned that Tanuki would bite the creepy guy and I'd be stuck paying damages - but was able to safely pick it up and close/bolt the door without further incident.
What a weird day.

@Edgar,
Pink bunny PJ's...?

"Influential teenage shit." ???

I'm glad that the temperature has dropped, and that Tanuki scared off creepy Mexican guy without any damage.

Hi NotanOptimist!
Influential teenage shit = The Pixies' Monkey Gone to Heaven.
Putting on my politically correct Berkeley thinking cap, I guess the creepy guy could have been from El Salvador or Nicaragua something. Nonetheless, he’s still a creep.
Thanks to my Dad and mean kids in L.A., I’ve avoided learning Spanish entirely, so it all sounds the same. Tanuki really does have sharp teeth. Akubi is generally in a decent enough mood and too much of a coma to pay attention.
Sorry for being politically incorrect, but I feel that way at the moment.

Sorry akubi, i thought you were in on the A Christmas Story motif that ogg and I were using. It is a movie. Ralphie wanted a red ryder bb gun for x-mas but instead got [this].

I'm glad Tanuki sent that guy packing. I can certainly understand why a woman living alone would want dogs.

I doubt my cats woudl be similarly helpful. They'd probably just rub up against the guy and beg for chin scratchies.

u need "dirty" harry calahan working security in your building. Don't be afraid to call 911 if someone gives you the creeps.

Not having seen the movie, that went completely over my head.

@Ogg,
Yeah they're not big dogs, but Tanuki sure is feisty - enough to freak out the Safeway delivery guys.

@Edgar,
Yeah, we don't even have security - just lots of cameras.
