The Eternal Sunshine of Fred & Anne

Square America uncovers an intriguing story within three early 20th Century photo albums found at a flea market...

As I looked through the album, however, I began to notice something strange…

Clearly, someone went through the album and systematically, and sometimes apparently violently, removed photos of women...

Questions remain:
...Still, what are we to make of the removed photos- did they agree to go through their own or each other's albums and remove any photos of old flames? Did one or the other do it on their own? If so, did they do it laughingly after a few glasses of wine or bitterly after an argument? And did it acheive it's desired effect- did Fred never again think about Delia or Gladys, did Anne forget Cas..?

Coors Light keeps me young

weird kid by ~auliya566

Not many people live to be a centenarian, but Alberta Krieg has held that honor, with a little help from Coors Light.
Krieg was 108 when she passed away Thursday morning at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.
Krieg had frequently credited drinking Coors Light as the key to her longevity.“Coors Light keeps me young,” she said in a previous interview with The Citizens’ Voice.

Featured Baabaabaab comment: Mitchell on the "The world would soon forget?"

In regards to Edgar's Engdahl link in "The world would soon forget?"

Mitchell said...
Edgar's link is temporarily not working, but you can still find Engdahl's essay at Asia Times, and elsewhere.

I do not think that even Engdahl says that "it was outside influences that got the unrest started". Price rises are always good for an angry mob, especially in a place where the state owns everything. And people do not need the US State Department's go-ahead before they start using digital media to smuggle out words and images of a crackdown. (I note that he overlooked "Blog about a blog about a blog about a blog", in his catalog of made-in-USA subversive institutions.)

There are a few other potentially misleading items I can see. The IMF today is far from being the government-toppling economic enforcer it was in Indonesia ten years ago. And "Malabar 07" only got underway four weeks after the demonstrations started. So I would be very cautious in adopting Engdahl's interpretation of world events. (For a further example, go to his website and see his "ex peak oil" essay, especially his remarks about Russian "abiotic oil" expertise being the prize in the Yukos affair.)

M. SINGH: Casey Serin and the Honorable Kenny ROGERS

BREAKING NEWS FLASH! M. SINGH has updated his blog for the first time since June!

For those of you who may not have access to the CaseyHaterz forum I thought I would bring M. SINGH's recent Casey to Kenny Rogers insights to your attention.

GENTLEMEN,

The photos only show one plate of pasta. However, applying light sources to the top right hand corner shows something more interesting:

As you can see, Messrs. SERIN and LUPO were sitting next to none other than the Honorable Kenny ROGERS! After noticing these would-be entrepreneurs work on their business plan, he introduced himself to Mr. SERIN. He said:

"Son, I've made a life out of massive focused action,
And spending days on finding ways to get cash back at close.
Of all the funds you siphoned, you don't even have a fraction.
If you'll pass me a shot of wheatgrass, I'll tell you what I know."

Mr. SERIN handed him his wheatgrass shot, and Mr. ROGERS drank it in one gulp. Then the Macaroni Grill became deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression. Mr. ROGERS leaned forward and whispered hoarsely:

"If you're going to play the game, boy, you have to learn to play it right.

"You got to know when to hold 'em,
know when to fold 'em,
know when to walk away,
know when to run."

Turning toward Mr. LUPO, he continued:

"Don't waste your time complaining
about your business partner's blogging.
They'll be plenty time for flogging
when you're underneath the bus."

Mr. SERIN was deeply moved by this meeting, and remembers it to this day -- October 16, 2007.

By October 17, he will have completely forgotten it.

I remain,

M. SINGH

Fun Shui and Coercive Joviality

I have never been a big fan of those workplace team building events where one builds balloon sculptures, bowls, etc. and theoretically “has fun” for the sake of team building. Perhaps a funsultant would have made all the difference...

Are We Having Fun Yet?
The infantilization of corporate America

I particularly liked this quote:

"When you and I were born, there were 2 billion people in the world. Today there are 6 billion. Maybe there are only 2 billion real jobs and all the rest of us are being relegated to bullshit jobs, like fun coaches and creative directors. If we took away all the bullshit jobs, our economy would collapse."

Funny Blog Comment of the Day

Anastasia said...
I don't recall seeing any nudity in comics as a kid, then again my local newsagent didn't have a huge array of comics, but the basics; the closest I came to observing erotic imagery would be the draped female form, but with obvious curves (breasts, nipples, etc).

In direct response to the breast feeding magazine cover, it's now 2007, a near year after this post was posted, but I had to add that this issue has become a semi-issue in Australia. I'm not sure if the Bush administration has some influence, or rather, the religious aspect surrounding Bush. We have had a high increase of American Christian denominations spread their wings, to take root in Australia, and I can't say that I'm enjoying their commercial aspects (one of which, Hillsong) is a registered 'company' that is exempt from paying taxes, that is currently paying for prime time advertising on television, as well as paying for visual advertising on public transport.

I can't comprehend the sexualisation of breast feeding. In my mind, only the most perverted person would sexualise breast feeding or take issue to it, because it's not a sexual activity (in the sense of being pornographic or functioning for orgasm).

In Australia, networks have followed the American example, blurring breasts on television. Even a news segment on breast cancer detection blurs out the breasts of women undergoing mammograms (which is non sexual, and hardly comfortable), so I'm not surprised with the censorship in comics; it's insane.

Then they tell people that they live in a democratic society, where they are unable to choose.

My approach to the issue would be to publish the 'nude' version, and publish a censored version for the conservatives that are out there.

This visual censorship is like the parental advisory sticker on CD's; stupid. As if all parents shop with their kids when they buy CD's?

This post is reserved for commentary unrelated to 6 Degrees of Casey Serin to The Cat in the Hat

Is there a subtitled version of Bubble Fiction, an intriguing film Tokyomango mentioned today?
She writes:
How do you make failed economic policy into a funny, futuristic comedy? Bubble Fiction, a new movie by Yasuo Baba, does it with a fake funeral, a time machine, and a cast of silly happy characters. In 1990, the Ministry of Finance announced a new fiscal policy that led to the infamous bubble burst that drove Japan into a long recession. 17 years later, research reveals that things are getting to bad that the country will be driven into the ground within two years. Not good!

Exurban Nation Observation: About Galina Serin

Interesting food for thought at Exurban Nation:

About Galina Serin

A few things to understand so that the following makes more sense, thus please bear with me. First off, I met Galina (once) during a three hour dinner meeting with Casey (I bought, at my insistence, in case you’re wondering). Second, I am qualified to make certain behavioral observations and determinations as I’m trained and authorized to do so under California’s ADR Programs Act. Third, and lastly, my objectivity in reporting here may be affect somewhat because I happen to like Galina (based on my personal observations).

Having made all that clear...

Galina Serin can best be described as a “lady” in the truest sense of that word. She is vastly different than her husband, both in behavior and speech. She is poised, well-mannered and gracious typifying a subservient yet supportive and loving Christian wife. She will speak her mind when appropriate, but mostly allows Casey to control the substance of discussions. She is quiet and soft spoken.

Galina does not make rash statements; she speaks deliberately -- always with a purpose, and is apparently of a very rational mind. When she speaks direct eye contact is predominant, and mannerisms convey a strong sense of sincerity.

She understands the complexities of what Casey does with his blog, but I sense (based on body language) does not approve. She is a private person who is less compulsive than Casey -- as is obvious by her physical reactions to certain stimuli. (For instance during our talks I made a number of trigger statements to seek reactions from both, Galina and Casey.)

As to the matter of whether or not Galina willfully participated in Casey’s Real Estate forays? I believe she had but in the role of a supportive wife, not with any criminal (wrong doer) intent. (If she is a grifter, which I seriously doubt, she was taught by one far more skilled in manipulative tactics than Casey -- who is inept at hiding areas of sensitivity.)

With respect to Galina’s transfer of property title to Casey? This is a common & customary practice in the State Of California, when one spouse is on paper (signatory to a loan) and the other is not. That does not mean Galina knew or understood what Casey was actually doing.

Regarding her credit card involvement? This too is a non-issue to prove any conspiratorial acts or duplicity. Galina’s personality type is to generally go-with-the-flow where her husband is concerned, resisting only when she fully understands the gravity and consequences of an issue. In short I sense, but cannot absolutely prove, that when it came to using credit cards? Galina simply believed Casey’s contentions and allowed the process.

Please note the above does not mean I am 100 percent accurate, and is not offered to you as absolute fact (proof of no wrong doing by Galina). There are some variables here (a few, not many) although the probabilities are, reasonably, that Galina’s involvement in Casey’s fiascoes is not as coconspirator, but nothing more than a supportive and loving wife.

You good folks are of course free to draw your own conclusions.

~Mark
