Lovely classic here
I'll go for the "no IT failure" level of difficulty.
1. Childs worked on Cisco kit.
2. Cisco's stock ticker symbol is CSCO. Averaging the EBCIDIC codes for CSCO gives us 207.5.
3. Cisco equipment is often sold to companies wishing to achive at least one or two "nines" of reliability.
4. Appending 9 to 207.5 and dropping the zero gives us 2759.
5. Noted Akubi adorer Ogg the Caveman has 2759 unique koi.
6. Ogg is a Casey hater.
In non-Casey news, my jury-rigged bicycle tail light mount that held for two winters failed today as I rode through an intersection a block from home. I was able to recover some, but not all, of the light.
I'm annoyed. The light was one of those rare things that's both cheap and good. The mounting job is one of those "temporary" 2-minute hacks that seemed like it was going to hold forever.
Mounting tail lights has always been a pain for me. I sometimes use a rack trunk and sometimes use panniers, which rules out both seatpost mount and chainstay mount. However, I finally figured out that the plate on my rack I was zip tying the light to is a European style tail light mount. Lights that mount that way in the US are hard to find, but not impossible.
Is Terry Childs gay?
If not, then I've got nothing. ;-)
I am very tempted to link them up by way of the Iraq-Pakistan border, just to be a smartass, but I figure I should leave this one to genuine residents of the Hotel California. However, it does remind me of my own close encounter with the power of withheld passwords. Back in 2001 I visited Starlab, an EU attempt to duplicate US dotcom dynamism, just after the place had gone into receivership. Most of the staff had returned to their countries of origin and lots of legacy hardware was sitting around unused. In particular, there was a customized parallel computer, value US$500,000 as I recall, which had been commissioned for some genetic algorithm experiments. Not only was it unused but it was unusable, because the machine's maker, unpaid on account of Starlab's fiscal crisis, logged in remotely and changed the password. It's like H.G. Wells's Martians, their tripods rendered inert by a mishap at the level of the invisibly small; all the hardware is still there, ready to fire up the death ray, manage the city payroll, or whatever, but it's been immobilized at the command level.
@Casey,
Is Terry Childs gay?
I don't know, but somehow Gavin Newsom managed to get the password from him...
"Zero some game"
Brilliant!
1) Childs was held on a $5 million bail bond.
2)His lawyer tried to get it reduced.
3) Reduced fat milk comes from a cow.
4)Cows wear bells.
5) Bells clank.
6) KC belongs in the clink. (groans)
