Happy New Year!
These are among a number of vintage New Year's postcards available at New York Public Library Digital Gallery, but Joanna Ebenstein at Morbid Anatomy picked the best ones. So far no one has commented on the significance of the mushrooms and I'd really like to know. Ideas?

On the way to work I was reading Japanese ghost stories and came across this poem:
Yoru bakari
Miru mono nari to
Omou-nayo!
Hiru sae yume no
Ukiyo nari-keri.
Think not that dreams appear to the dreamer
only at night: the dream of this world of pain
appears to us even by day.

Trains and UFOs
Over at Zillow Book, I've been exploring a train theme and posted Sleeping Beauty and Trains toujours en partance there, but thought they might not be fully appreciated due to the lack of nudity. There's something about trains and train stations that has always fascinated me - particularly vintage ones.
In UFO news, Prophet Yahweh retrieved his laptop from the pawn shop.

My Mini Duraflame
Overall, I think online grocery shopping is great, but not when I'm freezing my ass off and the case of Duraflame appears to be made for a fucking doll house upon delivery. They didn't include the fact that one log was approximately the same size as a Pomeranian's turd.

Fishnets on a Unicycle
The Unicyclist by ~rainbowblight
Once I found fishnets on a unicycle I decided the unicycle thread deserved a dedicated post.

Let me tell you about the very rich.
They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than we are. They are different.

This historic 12,000-square-foot Marin mansion sold for 65 million dollars. It just boggles the mind. The property tax on that house alone should resolve the county’s budget issues.
UPDATE: Scratch that. The new owners won't have to worry about a tax bill. Property taxes are waived because of the historic designation. Here's the listing.

Walking the Crocodiles
Breaking Croc News UPDATE!
More less safe for work images at Zillow Book.
Speaking of koi I'm intrigued with this Fish 'n Flush toilet fish tank.
"We were standing around one day," Mr. Parrish recalls, "and I said, 'Wouldn't it be fun if we had fish in it and you flushed it and the fish didn't go down?'"
More toilet news can be found at Edgar's Toilet.
